FEATURED CUSTOM HOME RENOVATION & EXTENSION:
Custom Home Renovation and Extension | Finch Toorak Gardens
As a 2023 HIA Finalist for ‘Renovation/Addition Project $500,000 – $750,000,’ this custom home renovation and extension has transformed a 1920s house into a stunning modern home while also preserving its original charm. Furthermore, it highlights a seamless balance between classic and contemporary design.
When our clients first saw this home, they weren’t thrilled with the interiors, but the location was perfect. They knew that, with some help, they could make it their own—a place to put down roots and raise their daughters. With Finch Constructions’ creative team, they transformed the dated interiors into a modern, functional space that’s both beautiful and practical for everyday life.
Throughout the custom home renovation and extension process, our team at Finch Constructions had the pleasure of getting to know the homeowners- a lovely family of four (and their golden retriever), who were residing in a small room at the front of their home during the entire construction process. The connection we made with this family allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of their unique lifestyle and needs, which in turn informed the layout and design of each renovated and extended space. We incorporated special touches that will not only suit them now, but for years to come.
Nestled in Adelaide’s leafy inner eastern suburbs, this 1920s home underwent a custom home renovation and extension that honors its original charm while introducing modern elegance. Finch Constructions crafted a fresh concept by blending classic architectural elements with contemporary finishes and furnishings. Our goal was to seamlessly integrate the interior and exterior spaces, allowing the homeowner to enjoy the surrounding greenery from every room. Using natural materials and a neutral palette, we achieved a timeless design that perfectly balances old-world charm with modern sophistication.
“When our clients initially saw this home for sale, they weren’t in love with the interiors; but the location won them over. They knew with a little bit of help, they could turn this home into their own, where they could put down roots and raise their young daughters”.

“Tucked amongst the leafy inner suburbs of Adelaide, we wanted to create a fresh concept that still honoured this homes original 1920s beauty & structure”.
Behind each of these tailor-made details is the integration of design and construction needed at every step of the way to achieve our clients dream home. Some of the key features to this newly renovated and extended home include (but aren’t limited to):
Open Floor Plan:
To create an optimal design flow for this growing family, our custom home renovation and extension focused on maximising space, adding height, and inviting natural light. Our clients, who love hosting and entertaining, envisioned a home that could easily accommodate guests. By removing barriers between the kitchen, living, and dining areas, Finch Constructions expanded the home’s footprint slightly, resulting in a large, bright, and open indoor/outdoor living space. This seamless design now allows the family to enjoy their home to the fullest, whether hosting gatherings or spending quality time together.
The Wine 'Cellar':
For these homeowners, true wine enthusiasts, our custom home renovation and extension included a stunning focal point in their new open-plan layout. We showcased their prestigious wine collection by designing a beautifully structured, temperature-controlled wine room, cleverly positioned at the heart of the home. With a window as a splashback in the kitchen, this artistic feature not only displays their collection but also serves as a show-stopping centerpiece that enhances the entire space.
Ensuite:
Our clients, a pair of working parents, commissioned us to create a space that would help them unwind from their hectic schedules. In order to maximise natural light and enhance the flow of their floorplan, we swapped the position of their old ensuite and master bedroom. Our secluded ensuite design features high-quality materials, an open layout, a luxurious standalone tub, and bespoke fixtures. The heated towel racks provide an extra layer of comfort, making this retreat the perfect place to recharge after a long day.
Natural Textures & Subtle Hues:
Natural Textures & Subtle Hues: Large, spacious, modern renovated rooms; the combination of natural timber, soft grey and blue hues make all renovated spaces (individually but cohesively) true statement pieces.
